The Gonzaga Dance Team was established in 1995 as an outlet for students to share their love for dance. Since then, this student-run organization and club has grown tremendously! It has been a performance and competition squad that has grown from a recreational group of dancers to a well-known and respected aspect of the Gonzaga and collegiate community. Gonzaga Dance Team can be seen performing at Gonzaga Men's and Women's home basketball games as well as other school and community appearances. Each year we travel to Seattle to perform at the annual Men's "Battle in Seattle" game. This past year, we traveled to Vancouver, BC to perform at the BC classic as well. We hold an annual dance clinic each year, participate in the NCAA Tournament, and participate actively in our community.

The Dance Team performs at half of the Men's and Women's basketball games and sells official game day programs at the games we do not perform at. We also perform at events on campus like Freshman Orientation, GEL Weekend, Relay for Life, Flashmobs, Kraziness in the Kennel, Club Fairs and other fundraisers. We have also performed at Spokefest, The Diamond Back Challenge, the Ronald McDonald Classic at Spokane Arena, and the BC Classic in Vancouver, BC. Each year we are invited to perform at Battle in Seattle at Key Arena.

Style & Technique

We expect that our dancers have a strong background in performance like Cheerleading, High School Dance Team or Studio Dance. Our routines are mostly jazz and some hip-hop, but we also do Pom. We expect dancers to be able to do pirouettes (at least a clean double), chaines, piques, leaps (R/L), kicks, center leaps and toe touches. We also look for a la seconde turns, switch leaps and tumbling abilities, although these are not necessarily required. We look for energetic and talented dancers that respect themselves and professional expectations and standards required of the Gonzaga University Dance Team. They must have strong academic goals and be extremely efficient in managing their time. Finally, a Gonzaga Dancer must be willing to commit to all practices, performances, events and appearances as well as making Dance Team a priority.

We practice three nights a week for approximately three hours each practice. The practice schedule each year depends on the class schedules of the team. Our practice schedule this year is Sunday 6:30-9:30 PM, Tuesday 8:30-11:00 PM, and Wednesday 8:30-11:00 PM. The first 30 minutes of our Tuesday and Wednesday practices are spend in the Rudolf Fitness Center doing cardio work.

We have an annual Gonzaga University Dance Clinic held at Gonzaga as well as other clinics held at schools throughout the community. We have collaborated with Second Harvest for food drives and Olive Crest for Christmas stockings, and InlandNWBaby to help them with their diaper drives. We also have traveled to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament each year to help support our Zags!
